The inaugural LOEGM MLB season is in the books. For some of us it was everything we could have hoped for and for others abysmal performances and the IL bug costs us our season. Regardless the first year was all that I hoped for when I started the league and then some. We will have some recap posts for the season as well as GM awards but this post is dedicated to a brief summary of the playoff teams, then as the playoffs progress we will have update posts twice a week (hopefully).
National League Teams
#1 - St. Louis Cardinals (17-4) - Elijah B.
While their record is slightly deceiving given the sub-par performance of their division rivals, they earned the #1 seed in the NL through a excellent rebuild of their pitching at the deadline and some timely wins against key teams such as Los Angeles and Philadelphia. Look for them to challenge the surging Wild Card Teams and make a push for the NLCS.
#2 - Philadelphia Phillies (16-5) - Kyle G.
Kyle's squad started off at a torrid pace going 14-0 before falling to St. Louis in Week 15. Subsequent losses to the Braves, Marlins, Cubs, and Mets left him on the precipice going into the final week of the regular season tied atop the NL East. However, his week 21 win against the Braves secured the division title and a first round playoff bye. Led by the likes of Rhys Hoskins, Aaron Nola, and Matt Chapman the Fightin Phils are poised for a great NLDS matchup against Los Angeles.
#3. Los Angeles Dodgers (14-6) - Brian H.
The Doyers basically led the NL West from the beginning. With rebuilding teams in Colorado and San Francisco in the division, the dodgers faced a moderately challenging road to the title as the Diamondbacks came within one game going into the final week of the season but were unable to complete the upset. With an offense led by JDM, Brantley, and Machado and a rotation anchored around Justin Verlander the Dodgers should be set for a marquee NLDS against the aforementioned Phils.
#4. Atlanta Braves (15-6) - Ryan C.
Despite trading the newest member of the 30/30 club in Acuna Jr prior to the deadline the Braves GM led his team to the edge of what would have been a stellar upset in the NL East as they went into the final week of the regular season tied with Philadelphia atop the division. However the pitching matchups simply didnt fall in Atlanta's favor and they were relegated to the current Wild Card Game against Miami. However, look for the new Atlanta GM to be active working this team into a continuous divisional contender!
#5. Miami Marlins (14-7) - Thomas G.
Despite having the worst Keepers to start the league the Marlins GM worked a marvelous drafting strategy and trading prowess into a unexpected contender. Going into week 20 we had a three-way tie atop the NL East with Miami being the odd man out when the dust settled. However taking a look at their offense led by Dejong, Freeman, and Urshela this team is poised for a deep run if they can make it past Atlanta and will be a formidable offensive foe in the coming year.
